This collection contains thirty-two papers presented at academic conferences on topics ranging from Amish technology (Miller, 1978) to kinship (Lewis, 1976). Included are Enninger's works on grooming and garments (1979), Hostetler's papers on the Old Order Amish (1976, 1978) and several papers delivered at the Plain People Discussion Section at the American Sociological Association meetings in 1976 (Driedger, Janzen, Lewis, Stoltzfus). Among themes probed in the papers are: education (Erickson, 1965, Furman & Eriksson, 1960, and Newcomb, 1986); linguistics (Anderson, 1993, Entwisle, 1969 and Raith, 1979); the Amish in Canada (Thompson, 1991 and Huntington, 1990), Plainville, Ill. Gertrude E. Huntington was born in Wooster, Ohio. She received a bachelor's degree in zoology in 1946 from Swarthmore College. From 1948 to 1950, Huntington served as chairwoman of the Biology Department at the Amerikan Kiz Koleji in Istanbul, Turkey. She received a master's degree in Conservation of Natural Resources in 1952 from Yale University.
